THE TEAM NEWS
PENRITH PANTHERS
Head Coach: Ivan Cleary
Starting 13: Edwards, Crichton, Whare, Naden, To’o, Maloney, Cleary, Tamou, Egan, Leota, Kikau, Martin, Fisher-Harris – Interchanges: Luai, Leniu, Burns, Campbell-Gillard – Reserves: Katoa, Sele
Unavailable: Tyrone May, Jack Hetherington, Josh Mansour, Isaah Yeo, Caleb Aekins, Jed Cartwright, Mitch Kenny
- Penrith's play-off hopes were ended as they were outclassed by Sydney Roosters which was their third consecutive defeat and will now bring their season to a close with a home game against Newcastle.
- The Panthers have a host of talent on the sidelines and Mitch Kenny was the latest to be ruled out for the year before last week's game with Wayde Egan starting this game at hooker.
- Sione Katoa has dropped to the reserves with no late changes expected for the Panthers in what will be James Maloney’s final NRL game of his career before he heads overseas to play for Catalans in the Super League.
NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS
Head Coach: Nathan Brown
Starting 13: Ponga, Best, Mata’utia, Hunt, Toa, Lino, Pearce, Klemmer, Watson, D. Saifiti, Fitzgibbon, Barnett, King – Interchanges: Mann, Ese’ese, Guerra, J. Saifiti – Reserves: Buhrer, Momoisea
Unavailable: Slade Griffin, Edrick Lee, Jesse Ramien, James Gavet, Tautau Moga, Danny Levi, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Tim Glasby
- Newcastle put a difficult week behind them as they responded to the departure of Nathan Brown with a big win over Gold Coast and will look to back that up with a victory over Penrith.
- Danny Levi will not play in this final game of the season for the Knights whilst Edrick Lee will also not be risked after overcoming the broken arm that he suffered earlier in the year which sees youngster Bradman Best retain his spot.
- Shaun Kenny-Dowall and Tim Glasby also miss out from last week’s clash with Stanford Toa and Jacob Saifiti replacing them whilst Max King has earned a start at lock having started on the bench last week.
THE PREDICTION
Penrith and Newcastle have both missed out on the top 8 after a disappointing season. The Panthers made an awful start to the year whilst the Knights have blown a great position after challenging for the top 4 earlier in the season. Both teams should look to throw the ball around to end the season on a high but it’s the Panthers that can come out on top to send James Maloney off with a victory in his final NRL game.
