THE TEAM NEWS

BRISBANE BRONCOS

Head Coach: Anthony Seibold

Starting 13: Milford, Isaako, Staggs, Shibasaki, Oates, Boyd, Turpin, Lodge, McCullough, Haas, Fifita, Pangai Jnr., Ofahengaue – Interchanges: Segeyaro, Flegler, Kennedy, Carrigan – Reserves: Farnworth, Gillett, Perese, Glenn

Unavailable: Jack Bird, Richie Kennar, Sean O’Sullivan, Tom Dearden, Alex Glenn, Matt Gillett

  • Brisbane got away with one as they clinched a late win over North Queensland despite a poor attacking performance last week in what was a huge win for the Broncos’ play-off aspirations.
  • The Broncos have named an unchanged side from last week's narrow win and whilst Alex Glenn and Matt Gillett were hoping to be late inclusions to the initial side named this week, neither have been able to prove their fitness.
  • Rugby union convert Izaia Perese will make his NRL debut from the bench after it was confirmed he would be elevated to the 17 come kick-off with Rhys Kennedy set to be the man to make way.

PENRITH PANTHERS

Head Coach: Ivan Cleary

Starting 13: Edwards, Mansour, Crichton, Naden, To’o, Maloney, Cleary, Tamou, Kenny, Fisher-Harris, Kikau, Martin, Yeo – Interchanges: Katoa, Leniu, Leota, Campbell-Gillard – Reserves: Whare, Burns, Ellis, Sele

Unavailable: Tyrone May, Jarome Luai, Wayde Egan

  • Penrith held off a late Cronulla fightback to get back to winning ways but must back that up here against one of their play-off rivals as the race for the top 8 begins to intensify with only four rounds of the regular season remaining.
  • The Panthers will be boosted by the return of five-eighth James Maloney from suspension with debutant Matt Burton dropping out but fellow rookies Stephen Crichton and Spencer Leniu have retained their places.
  • They will line-up at centre and on the bench respectively with Dean Whare unable to force his way back in as he must settle for a spot in the reserves whilst Isaah Yeo is named in the run-on side with Moses Leota reverting to the bench.

THE PREDICTION

This is a huge clash between two teams chasing a play-off spot and it could have big ramifications for the loser. The victor will end the round inside the top 8 but the loser could well find themselves on the outer which highlights the importance of the fixture. Penrith looked good last week and will be confident of building on that and whilst Brisbane won their game, they were poor and will need to produce a much better performance if they are to avoid what could be a catastrophic defeat.
