THE TEAM NEWS

AUSTRALIA

  • Australia were straightforward winners against Samoa in their opening game of the Pacific Championships and will now do battle with old rivals New Zealand.
  • The Kangaroos welcome back Valentine Holmes into the backline following his one-game ban while Thomas Flegler will come in for his Test debut as well as Nicho Hynes, although the latter will start on the bench.

Starting 13: Tedesco, Edwards, Tabuai-Fidow, Staggs, Holmes, Munster, Cherry-Evans, J. Trbojevic, Hunt, Flegler, Murray, Cotter, Yeo - Interchanges: Grant, Collins, Carrigan, Hynes

NEW ZEALAND

  • New Zealand were mightily impressive in their clash with Samoa last week, running out 50-0 victors to highlight their quality on both sides of the ball.
  • The Kiwis have unsurprisingly named an unchanged side on the back of that success with Kieran Foran retaining the starting hooking spot after he came into the team ahead of kick off for Fa’amanu Brown who reverted to the bench.

Starting 13: Nicoll-Klokstad, Mulitalo, Timoko, Manu, Isaako, Brown, Hughes, Fisher-Harris, Foran, Leota, Papali’i, Nikora, Tapine - Interchanges: Brown, Asofa-Solomona, Neame, Thompson

THE PREDICTION

Australia and New Zealand have both had little trouble in defeating Samoa in their respective clashes over the past couple of weeks but now the two powerhouses will do battle in what should be an intriguing contest. The Australians edged a pulsating encounter between the two in last year’s World Cup, booking their spot in the final with that success before they landed the trophy and they are likely to be too good once again.

BETTING TIP: Australia to win
