Roma Preview: Ranieri’s Roman ruins

Over the November international break, Claudio Ranieri became Roma’s third permanent manager of the season after the sackings of club legend Daniele De Rossi and Ivan Juric. Performances have improved but results have remained very average.

The Giallorossi begin the weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just two points above the bottom three and the relegation places and they were beaten by Cesc Fabregas’ Como last weekend. In midweek, they hammered Sampdoria by four goals to one at the Olimpico in the cup.

Parma Preview: Pretty Parma

Following their promotion to the top-flight last season, Parma boss Fabio Pecchia was heavily linked with several clubs in Serie A but he decided to stay put and implement his impressive style of football in the top-flight and they will be reasonably pleased with their first 16 games.

They sit a point behind Roma ahead of their meeting in the capital city with their 16 games producing 51 goals. They most recently suffered a 3-2 loss to Hellas Verona at the Ennio Tardini last weekend in a game in which they were 1-0 and then 3-1 down and fairly beaten.

Roma Team News: Key doubts

The Romans have a few key injury doubts for this weekend. Summer signings Mats Hummels and Manu Kone are dealing with illness and a thigh injury respectively, whilst Bryan Cristante is also struggling with an ankle issue.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Svilar; Celik, Ndicka, Mario Hermoso; Abdulhamid, Le Fee, Pellegrini, Tasende; Saelemaekers, El Shaarawy; Dovbyk

Unavailable:

Questionable: Hummels (Injured), Kone (Injured), Cristante (Injured)

Parma Team News: A few injuries

Yordan Osorio is edging his way back to full fitness but Parma do still have defensive injury issues such as Alessandro Circati and Lautaro Valenti. Former Manchester City midfielder Adrian Bernabe remains sidelined due to a thigh injury.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Suzuki; Del Prato, Leoni, Balogh, Valeri; Camara, Sohm; Man, Hernani, Cancellieri; Bonny

Unavailable: Circati (Injured), Valenti (Injured), Adrian Bernabe (Injured), Charpentier (Injured), Kowalski (Injured)

Questionable: Yordan Osorio (Injured), Nahuel Estevez (Injured)

Roma vs Parma Prediction

Claudio Ranieri’s management style is to teach teams and players the ‘ABC’s of football’ and make sides more defensive and difficult to beat. That hasn’t necessarily come to fruition with the Romans but performances have improved and they were unfortunate to lose to two second-half stoppage-time goals in Como last week. They will have to be more front foot at the Olimpico with Parma one of the more attacking and entertaining teams to watch in Serie A so both teams scoring would appear a good bet for this one in the Italian capital.
