Roberto Carballes Baena vs Tommy Paul Prediction

Roberto Carballes Baena has enjoyed his run so far in the first week in Melbourne and he has been playing some excellent tennis.

His first-round win over 23rd-seed Alejandro Tabilo in four sets was impressive and he went on to overcome James Duckworth in straight sets in the second round.

He now meets number 12 seed Tommy Paul who has had two challenging matches of his own so far. After his five-setter against Christopher O’Connell, he then lost the opening set against Kei Nishikori before rallying to win in four dropping just four games in the process.

Bizarrely for two experienced players, they have only met once before and that came back in 2021 at the US Open. Carballes Baena won that match in four sets.

Paul is going to have raise his game if he is to beat Carballes Baena. This does not feel like a tie where the seeded player is assured of going through and the Spaniard is a real threat to Paul on current form. Our preferred play is on set betting here as we cannot see either player dominating this one. Consider over 3.5 sets and do not rule out a seed being eliminated.
