Roberto Carballes Baena vs Nuno Borges prediction

Roberto Carballes Baena’s love affair with the clay courts at Grand Prix Hassan II continues as he targets a third semi-final berth at the tournament.

The Spaniard stretched his record to 12 wins in his last 13 in Marrakesh with a solid 6-4 6-4 victory over Otto Virtanen, playing an effective counter-punching game with some clinical work at the net helping him win nine of 12 points in the forecourt.

The 2023 champion faces Portugal’s Nuno Borges next after the fourth seed battled back to sink Belgium’s Raphael Collignon 2-6 6-3 7-6, winning 81% of points on his first serve and landing 43 winners across the three sets.

Borges met Carballes Baena in qualifying on the clay at Estoril four years ago where he won 7-5 6-4 on home turf, but given the Spaniard’s imperious form at this tournament we could well see the 32-year-old turning the tables this time around.
