Roberto Bautista Agut v Casper Ruud prediction

Casper Ruud last played at the Miami Open, winning his first two rounds before a straight sets defeat against Francisco Cerundolo. He now begins perhaps the most defining period of his season at the Monte-Carlo Masters. It is no secret that the Norwegian enjoys playing on the red clay, winning 11 of his 12 titles on the surface, and he made the final of this event last year. Unfortunately for Ruud, he was defeated by Stefanos Tsitsipas who won the tournament for the third time.

He will face veteran Roberto Bautista Agut in the second round, with the Spaniard beating Brandon Nakashima 6-2 6-4 in what may be his finest win of the season so far. He leads the head-to-head 3-1 too, including a victory on clay at the Munich Open in 2018. 

However, Ruud was just 19 years old during that encounter and has improved considerably as a player, especially on this surface. We expect a comfortable victory for the number four seed.
