Robert Owen vs Callan Rydz Prediction
The only qualifier still in the draw, Robert Owen has broken new ground at Alexandra Palace this year having reached the last 16 on just his second ever participation. Indeed, the Welshman hadn’t won a game on the Alexandra Palace stage before this year, but has played some excellent darts in wins over Niels Zonneveld, Gabriel Clemens and most recently Ricky Evans.
The 40-year-old has not been a frequent participant in televised tournaments but he did embark on a memorable run to the semi-finals of the UK Open in 2018. Victory here, though, would surely be the most significant win of his career.
Callan Rydz, however, has quite simply been the top performer so far in the PDC World Darts Championship. At the time of writing, the 26-year-old has posted the two highest averages in the tournament, crashing in a 107.06 average in the first round and most recently averaging 105.31 in a 4-0 demolition of 11th seed Dimitri Van den Bergh.
Rydz is yet to even drop a set in his three games to date, and is seeking a second World Championship quarter-final after reaching the last eight in 2022.
Owen will feel he has nothing to lose here, but he simply won’t live with Rydz if his opponent maintains his recent level. For extra value, consider backing the Englishman to overcome a handicap.
Robert Owen vs Callan Rydz Tip: Callan Rydz to win with -1/5 sets handicap
