Reims Preview: Reims’ cup run

Stade de Reims begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just above the bottom three and the danger zone with just six victories in their opening 27 matches. Four of those six wins came in the opening couple of months of the campaign.

However, following the appointment of Samba Diawara, they have been a little improved and they reached the final of the Coupe de France in midweek as they overcame fourth-tier Cannes by two goals to one in a hard-fought clash at Stade Pierre de Courbetin.

Strasbourg Preview: Silky Strasbourg

Coached by former Hull City boss Liam Rosenior, Strasbourg have been very entertaining to watch throughout the campaign with their 27 matches so far this season consisting of 80 goals as they begin the match day sitting tucked inside the top six and the European spots.

The Alsace-based outfit have also been in very good form in terms of effectiveness as well as entertainment of late, most recently returning from the March international break with a 4-2 defeat of Olympique Lyonnais at Stade de la Meinau last weekend.

Strasbourg Team News: A few doubts

The visitors have a few doubts ahead of their trip to Reims this weekend with Nottingham Forest loanee Andrew Omobamidele potentially sidelined alongside the likes of Abdoul Ouattara and Habib Diarra.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Petrovic; Doue, Sarr, Doukoure, Diego Moreira; Santos, Barco; Bakwa, Lemarechal, Nanasi; Emegha

Reims vs Strasbourg Prediction

Stade de Reims have struggled throughout the campaign despite a strong-ish start to the Luka Elsner reign. Samba Diawara has said that he didn’t want to spoil the party after they reached the cup final in midweek but their focus must be on survival. They face a Strasbourg side that, with that 4-2 win over Lyon last week, have now suffered just one defeat in their last 14 matches in Ligue 1. Reims were unconvincing against fourth-tier opposition in midweek and Strasbourg’s form makes them firm favourites for this one.
