Reilly Opelka vs Tomas Machac Prediction
Reilly Opelka has started 2025 in fine form and after various injuries over the last couple of years, there is a feeling that the big American is desperate to make up for lost time.
After reaching the final in Brisbane, he missed the ASB Classic in Auckland amid some injury concerns but he looked good in his first-round match against Gauthier Onclin who he beat in four sets.
He fired down a staggering 38 aces in that match but only won 38% on his second serve and he will be keen to improve on that against Tomas Machac who he faces here.
Machac was in good form in the first round as he comfortably eased past India’s Sumit Nagal in straight sets. The 26th seed will want to improve his 50% on first serve but his win percentages were sufficiently high enough to win the match. He also created 15 break points and took seven of them and he will have to be perhaps even more efficient against Opelka here.
This is a really tough match for the seeded player and Opelka will be fired up to cause the upset. Opelka’s best chance will be to try keep this match short but that will not be easy against Machac. The young Czech player can run all day and he will look to take it deep which Opelka’s body will struggle with.
Our take here is that this match will go deep and if that is the case, Machac has to be favoured. Set betting is our preferred approach and over 3.5 with confidence.
