Real Mallorca Preview: Majorcan madness
Real Mallorca remain in contention for a top seven or eight finish and potential UEFA competition qualification. The Balearic Islanders have, though, drifted in recent weeks and gave up a potentially massive three points against Osasuna last weekend.
The home team suffered three successive defeats before then facing Osasuna at Son Moix last week in a game in which they took an 81st minute lead via a Vedat Muriqi penalty before Enzo Boyomo notched a second-half stoppage-time equaliser for the visitors.
Las Palmas Preview: Slipping Canarians
After a very poor start to the season under Luis Carrion following the departure of Garcia Pimienta to Sevilla, Las Palmas were much-improved following the appointment of Diego Martinez during the October international break but things have taken a turn once again.
The Canary Islanders come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat at home to Villarreal at Estadio Gran Canaria in their most recent outing last weekend. That means they are now winless in their last six matches across all competitions since before Christmas.
Real Mallorca Team News: The big men up-front
Mallorca have struggled for goals this season as they try and play a more progressive style of football but with a reliance on two so-called ‘big men’ up front in Kosovo international Vedat Muriqi alongside Canada international striker Cyle Larin.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Greif; Pablo Maffeo, Valjent, Antonio Raillo, Johan Mojica; Omar Mascarell, Costa; Ruben Navarro, Dani Rodriguez, Sergi Darder; Muriqi
Unavailable: Manu Morlanes (Injured), Antonio Sanchez (Injured)
Questionable:
Las Palmas Team News: Couple of suspensions
Las Palmas are dealing with a couple of suspensions for this weekend such as defensive midfielder Dario Essugo and former Everton forward Sandro Ramirez. Winter signing Stefan Bajcetic is also a doubt due to a calf issue.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Cillessen; Pelmard, Alex Suarez, McKenna, Mika Marmol; Loiodice, Stefan Bajcetic; Benito Ramirez, Javier Munoz, Alberto Moleiro; Silva
Unavailable: Dario Essugo (Suspended), Jose Campana (Injured), Kirian Rodriguez (Illness), Sandro (Suspended)
Questionable: Park (Injured), Stefan Bajcetic (Injured), Januzaj (Injured)
Real Mallorca vs Las Palmas Prediction
Both of these island sides have wanted to play a progressive and more proactive style of football this season and both would have believed they could push for the top seven or eight. Mallorca remain in contention despite their recent dip in form, whereas Las Palmas will have to turn their attention back to the relegation battle. Las Palmas have a few key absentees here and have been playing poorly, whilst there was reason to be encouraged for the Majorcans against Osasuna last week so siding with the hosts looks the way to go for this one.
Real Mallorca vs Las Palmas Tip: Double chance – Real Mallorca to win or draw
