Real Mallorca Preview: Majorcan inconsistency

Jago Arrasate took charge of Real Mallorca over the summer following the departure of Javier Aguirre to the Mexican national team with the task of developing the Majorcans into a more attractive side to watch that can challenge for a top seven finish and UEFA qualification.

The Balearic Islanders begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the top-half of the table but they will be frustrated by their inconsistent form that continued last weekend with a 2-0 loss to Celta Vigo at Balaidos in Galicia last weekend.

Girona Preview: Liga focus

After a second successive summer in which Girona had to sell key players as a member of the City Football Group, manager Michel, who won La Liga’s Manager of the Month award for November, did declare it would be a much more difficult campaign this time around.

They finished third and qualified for the UEFA Champions League in their fifth ever La Liga season last year but have struggled on the continent. However, if last season hadn’t happened, their current position of pushing for the top seven would be quite an impressive start.

Real Mallorca Team News: Antonio Raillo suspension

Mallorca are dealing with a few potential absentees in defence such as Juan Manuel Copete and Toni Lato. As well as those two, centre-back Antonio Raillo is unavailable for this weekend due to suspension.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Greif; Mateu Morey, Valjent, Van Der Heyden, Johan Mojica; Omar Mascarell, Costa; Asano, Dani Rodriguez, Sergi Darder; Muriqi

Unavailable: Antonio Raillo (Suspended)

Questionable: Copete (Injured), Toni Lato (Injured)

Girona Team News: Key issues

Czechia international defender Ladislav Krejci has been impressive since joining this summer but he is now unavailable for this weekend due to suspension. Fellow summer signing Bojan Miovski is also out injured, too, after finding some form of late.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Paulo Gazzaniga; Arnau Martinez, David Lopez, Blind, Miguel Gutierrez; Ivan Martin, Oriol Romeu; Yaser Asprilla, Van de Beek, Bryan Gil; Abel Ruiz

Unavailable: Krejci (Suspended), Yangel Herrera (Injured), Tsygankov (Injured), Misehouy (Injured), Jastin Garcia (Injured), Miovski (Injured)

Questionable: Jhon Solis (Injured)

Real Mallorca vs Girona Prediction

With the likes of Sergi Darder and Vedat Muriqi likely to come back into the starting eleven, Mallorca are likely to carry a more potent and incisive threat in the final third this weekend. They face a Girona side that, whilst weaker than last season, have remained as attacking and entertaining as they have been in the last couple of seasons. As a result, a fun game for the neutral with both teams scoring looks a good bet for this one.
