Real Madrid Preview: Problems for Madrid

Carlo Ancelotti’s defending Spanish and European champions sit just about tucked inside the top 24 in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League. Los Blancos suffered a 2-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield in midweek with a really poor performance punished by second-half goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo.

Madrid have seemingly found some form in La Liga either side of the November international break with a 4-0 hammering of Osasuna being followed up by a 3-0 defeat of Leganes at Butarque. They have struggled to adapt to the retirement of Toni Kroos and the signing of Kylian Mbappe with things not clicking whatsoever for the 15-time European champions.

Getafe Preview: Subjective genius of Jose Bordalas

In his second stint in charge, Jose Bordalas is once again getting a depleted Getafe side to punch above their weight as they push away from the bottom three and the relegation places with just fight defeats in their 14 matches so far this season but such is typical of their style of football, they have managed just two victories.

Jose Bordalas is known for an aggressive and hostile, defensive style of football but Getafe did earn their second win of the 2024/25 La Liga campaign last weekend as they defeated struggling Real Valladolid by two goals to nil at the Coliseum thanks to second-half goals from Real Madrid loanee Alvaro Rodriguez as well as former West Bromwich Albion defender Allan Nyom.

Real Madrid Team News: Injury crisis

Carlo Ancelotti, the ‘galactico whisperer’ and genius pragmatist, has struggled to adapt his side this season and he is now having to deal with a plethora of injury issues for this weekend.

The stars of Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe are doubts with key man Vinicius Junior out for a couple more weeks, whilst Aurelien Tchouameni and Dani Carvajal are both part of a long absentee list.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Courtois; Lucas Vazquez, Raul Asencio, Rudiger, Fran Garcia; Fede Valverde, Dani Ceballos, Bellingham; Guler, Mbappe, Brahim Diaz

Unavailable: Alaba (Injured), Jacobo (Injured), Militao (Injured), Dani Carvajal (Injured), Tchouameni (Injured), Camavinga (Injured), Vinicius Junior (Injured), Rodrygo (Injured)

Questionable: Bellingham (Injured), Brahim Diaz (Injured), Mbappe (Injured)

Getafe Team News: Couple of suspensions

With a depleted and small squad, Getafe could do without suspensions but they do have two players missing as a result of that with no Djene or Bertug Yildirim for this weekend.

As well as those two being absent, former Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena is out injured, whilst former Real Madrid attacker Borja Mayoral a key doubt, too.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): David Soria; Nyom, Domingos Duarte, Omar Alderete, Diego Rico; Alex Sola, Mauro Arambarri, Luis Milla, Carles Perez; Alvaro Rodriguez, Uche

Unavailable: Djene (Suspended), Carles Alena (Injured), Yildirim (Suspended)

Questionable: Borja Mayoral (Injured)

Real Madrid vs Getafe Prediction

Real Madrid have issues. Tactically they appeared to have overcome them a little but they were against opposition in Osasuna and Leganes who like to come out and attack without the quality to do so on a consistent basis. They also now have what is fair to describe as an injury crisis to deal with. Getafe are stubborn and not the team you want to face when things aren’t clicking. Madrid should win, especially with home advantage, but it is unlikely to be an overly convincing or entertaining one.
