Rayo Vallecano Preview: Safety first

For most of this campaign, with Andoni Iraola’s former assistant coach Inigo Perez playing an intense and aggressive style of football, Rayo Vallecano have been challenging for the top seven or eight spots in La Liga but they have now since drifted since securing La Liga status.

The hosts come into this one on the back of a 3-1 defeat to Athletic Club at San Mames in the Basque Country last weekend. That means that Rayo have now managed just one victory in their last eight matches in a run that stretches back to early February.

Valencia Preview: Valencian brilliance

Following the appointment of West Bromwich Albion boss Carlos Corberan on Christmas Eve, Valencia, who were rock-bottom in La Liga, have enjoyed the second best run of form in La Liga ever since then, only losing to Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in the league.

The Valencians come into this one on the back of yet another victory last weekend as they defeated Sevilla by a goal to nil at Mestalla last week courtesy of a first-half stoppage-time winner scored by midfielder Javi Guerra.

Rayo Vallecano Team News: Couple of injuries

Rayo Vallecano have been able to welcome back key attackers such as Jorge de Frutos and Isi Palazon but they remain without key defender Abdul Mumin, whilst striker Sergio Camello remains a doubt due to a toe injury.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Auguste Batalla; Ratiu, Lejeune, Aridane, Alfonso Espino; Pablo Diaz, Ciss; Jorge de Frutos, Gerard Gumbau, Pep Chavarria; Alvaro Garcia

Unavailable: Mumin (Injured)

Questionable: Sergio Camello (Injured)

Valencia Team News: Couple of injuries

Valencia have no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues for this weekend’s trip to the capital city. They remain without defender Thierry Correia due to a knee injury, whilst Ivan Jaime is a doubt due to a hamstring issue.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Mamardashvili; Foulquier, Carlos Tarrega, Cristhian Mosquera, Jose Luis Gaya; Javi Guerra, Barrenechea; Luis Rioja, Almeida, Diego Lopez; Sadiq

Unavailable: Correia (Injured)

Questionable: Ivan Jaime (Injured)

Rayo Vallecano vs Valencia Prediction

Rayo Vallecano play an intense and aggressive style of football but their overall lack of quality is therefore reliant on the point of difference of the way in which they play so when they take their eye off the ball in that regard, they are susceptible. Now that they appear to have taken their eye off the ball, Valencia will fancy their chances of continuing their excellent form and even continuing to propel themselves towards the European spots in La Liga.

Rayo Vallecano vs Valencia Tip: Double chance – Valencia to win or draw
