Qinwen Zheng vs Maria Sakkari prediction

Qinwen Zheng had a pretty decent showing at the Sunshine Double events, making the quarter-finals in both but losing out to top seed Aryna Sabalenka and second seed Iga Swiatek respectively.

This was a vast improvement from her form in the earlier part of the season, where she suffered a surprise second-round loss in the Australian Open before early defeats in both Qatar and Dubai.

The Chinese star now begins her clay court campaign, having enjoyed some great success on the surface already in her young career, winning three of her WTA tour titles including the Olympic singles title in Paris at Roland Garros.

Maria Sakkari defeated Marina Stakusic 6-3 6-2 in her first-round match, but the Greek still had to overcome a slow start and was broken on her serve on three occasions.

Sakkari does lead the head-to-head 2-1, with victories at the 2022 Australian Open and Doha Open in 2023, but Zheng won the last encounter in Zhengzhou and we think she’ll have too much for Sakkari once again.
