Qinwen Zheng vs Coco Gauff Prediction
Qinwen Zheng is registering all kinds of milestones thanks to her performances this week as the 22-year-old goes from strength to strength. She has become just the second Chinese player to reach the final after compatriot Li Na did in 2013. She is the first player to reach the final on debut since Anett Kontaveit in 2021 and the youngest to reach the final on debut since Petra Kvitova.
She will be hoping to smash more records with a victory in the final as she takes on Coco Gauff on Saturday.
Zheng lost her opening match to Aryna Sabalenka but has then won all three matches against Elena Rybakina, Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejcikova to reach the final. She beat Krejcikova 6-3 7-5 and she is playing some really good stuff right now.
Whether she is playing as well as Coco Gauff is another matter however. Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka were arguably the two standout players in the group stage but then Gauff eliminated Sabalenka in the semi-finals on Friday.
Her win over Iga Swiatek in the group stage was a real statement given the fact she has been beaten by her so many times. The win over Sabalenka was another one of those and Gauff’s confidence will be through the roof right now.
We cannot see past Gauff here. Zheng is playing really well and her serve is getting her out of some trouble at times, but Gauff’s all-round game is so strong at present. We fancy her chances of getting the win her and capping off what has been an outstanding week for the 20-year-old.
