Punahele Soriano: Hawaiian star aiming for run in welterweight division

Punahele Soriano (10-4) was struggling with four defeats in five but made the decision to move to the welterweight division and it looked to pay off as he won his last fight. He picked up a unanimous decision win over Miguel Baeza last June to revive his career in the UFC and now he looks to make inroads in the new division. In that bout, he produced the most ground strikes landed in a UFC welterweight bout so that dominant performance will give him good confidence coming into this clash with Medic.

Uroš Medić: Serb ‘Doctor’ returns to action after rib injury

Uros Medic (10-2) returns to action after a rib injury forced him out of a fight last Autumn. His last bout was in April where he TKO’d Tim Means taking his record to 10-2 and his record in the UFC to 4-2. All four of his wins in the Octagon have come by TKO and he has picked up a couple of Performance of the Night bonuses in doing so. The short layoff should not overly impact him and it will be fascinating to see how Medic fares against Soriano.

Punahele Soriano vs Uroš Medić Prediction

This fight in the welterweight division between Punahele Soriano and Uros Medic has action written all over it and it is one of our favourite fights on the UFC Fight Night 249 card.

Soriano had new energy in his win last time out and it will be interesting to see whether it really has given him a new lease of life in the welterweight division.

Medic has suffered a couple of submission losses since joining the UFC but he is a knockout king and as dangerous as they come.

We do not see this one going the distance and it could very well turn into a slugfest. Soriano will want to take this fight to the ground and use his wrestling which is surely the best approach against Medic.

The question is whether Medic can connect when they are standing. If he does, he is capable of stopping anybody.

We are back and forth on this one but we lean slightly more towards Soriano’s wrestling. Our play however is on the round betting and we think this one ends in either the first or the second round.

Prediction: Fight will not go the distance
