PSG Preview: Problems but easy for PSG

Defending champions and runaway Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain have a ten-point lead at the top-of-the-table over Olympique de Marseille and upcoming opponents Monaco but things aren’t as plain sailing as it may seem for Luis Enrique and his Parisiens at the moment.

There is a transition, of sorts, going on in Paris as they try and rebuild and shift their squad away from the stars and the glamour of the last decade and a half or so, despite the fact they actually remain unbeaten domestically in the opening few months of this campaign.

Monaco Preview: The frustrating Monegasque

Former Borussia Monchengladbach boss Adi Hutter has put an entertaining team out onto the pitch at Stade Louis II but Monaco are perhaps lacking a cutting edge in the final third, which could come in the January transfer window as they chase PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani.

They had began to stutter a fair bit ahead of the winter break. The Monegasque come into this one on the back of a 4-2 defeat to PSG at Stade Louis II in their last Ligue 1 outing a few weeks ago to mean they have won just two of their last seven matches across all competitions.

PSG Team News: A few doubts

The aforementioned Kolo Muani is actually an injury doubt for the clash in Qatar. First-choice goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is also a doubt after the injury he sustained to his face against Monaco in the league a few weeks ago.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Safonov; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, Neves; Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz; Dembele, Doue, Barcola

Unavailable:

Questionable: Donnarumma (Injured), Kimpembe (Injured), Mendes (Injured), Kolo Muani (Injured)

Monaco Team News: Some key absentees

Key centre-back Christian Mawissa is unavailable due to a calf injury this weekend with a couple of other injury issues such as Edan Diop and Krepin Diatta. Defensive midfielder Denis Zakaria is also a doubt as he deals with a calf injury.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Kohn; Singo, Kehrer, Salisu, Vanderson; Magassa, Camara; Akliouche, Ben Seghir, Golovin; Embolo

Unavailable: Mawissa (Injured), Diop (Injured), Diatta (Injured)

Questionable: Majecki (Injured), Coulibaly (Injured), Zakaria (Injured)

PSG vs Monaco Prediction

These two faced off against each other just a few weeks ago and it was an entertaining encounter as PSG managed to defeat Monaco by four goals to two. PSG were in control of that game until they weren’t but eventually pulled themselves away and there does appear to be something of a mentality that they can do something unique domestically, amid their poor form in the UEFA Champions League. PSG are expected to win what should be another entertaining encounter in the Trophee des Champions.

PSG vs Monaco Tip: PSG to win & over 2.5 goals
