Peyton Stearns vs Kimberly Birrell prediction

Peyton Stearns slumped to a disappointing defeat in the first-round of the Charleston Open last time out, losing in straight sets to Ajla Tomljanovic. Her best performance of the season to date was in Dubai, where she won two matches before a heavy defeat to Mirra Andreeva at the round-of-16 stage. 

Stearns has reached the third-round of the French Open in back-to-back seasons and performed well on clay last season, winning her first title on the tour in Rabat. She takes on Kimberly Birrell as she looks to get things back on track for this campaign.

Birrell has impressed at times this season, making the quarter-finals of the Singapore Open as a wildcard, beating fifth seed Polina Kudermetova and Hailey Baptiste. She has reached her highest ever ranking of 61 but is yet to prove how good she can be on clay, with no notable achievements on the surface.
