Peter Wright vs Stephen Bunting Prediction

In a similar vein to fellow quarter-finalist and former world champion Gerwyn Price, no one really expected 2020 and 2022 champion Peter Wright to still be in the tournament at this stage, especially after a rather underwhelming year by his standards.

However, ‘Snakebite’ will now feature in a seventh Ally Pally quarter-final after eliminating reigning champion Luke Humphries in a fine display, the veteran converting an astonishing 70% of his double attempts.

It is a fourth Alexandra Palace quarter final, meanwhile, for Stephen Bunting, who ruthlessly punished some wasteful finishing from Luke Woodhouse in the fourth round. ‘The Bullet’ ultimately lost just three legs in a 4-0 victory despite admitting to some nerves in the aftermath.

Wright has rolled back the years so far at this tournament and is bound to be feeling confident after knocking out Humphries. Bunting can occasionally falter on the doubles in the big moments and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see that happen here, with the stakes so high. We’re therefore tipping Wright to use all his experience to progress.
