NOVAK DJOKOVIC VS CARLOS ALCARAZ PREDICTION

Novak Djokovic is out for revenge after his straight sets defeat at the hands of Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon men’s final. In what has been a glittering trophy-laiden career, an Olympic gold medal has eluded the Serbian superstar and at 37-years-old, you have to assume this is his last chance to win one.

Carlos Alcaraz on the other hand, will likely have other opportunities to go for gold, but to overcome Djokovic for the third time at a major final and become Olympic singles champion at just 21-years-old would be a major statement. He is yet to drop a set across the tournament and only seems to be getting better by the match, beating Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-1, 6-1 in the semi-finals.

Djokovic has also gone through the competition without losing a set, dropping 29 games compared to Alcaraz’s 28 games lost. However, the former has been playing with an injured knee and in a high intensity final such as this, on a clay court against such a dynamic opponent who has won 20 of his last 21 singles matches, that knee problem could really affect Djokovic adversely, especially as this final goes on.

The romantic ending would be Novak Djokovic defeating Carlos Alcaraz and claiming the only main prize that he has yet to win, a gold medal for Serbia. However, when taking into account the sheer brilliance of Alcaraz and his recent experience of getting past Djokovic in a high-pressure final, backing the Spaniard to claim the gold has to be favoured.
