LORENZO MUSETTI VS GAEL MONFILS PREDICTION
It is a quick turnaround for Italian 22-year-old Lorenzo Musetti who lost the Croatia Open final on Saturday against Francisco Cerundolo and he now goes straight into Paris 2024 Olympics action as he meets French star Gael Monfils. This is a repeat of their round of 64 match at Roland Garros just a few months ago at the French Open and it was Musetti who emerged victorious in that match winning in straight sets 7-5 6-1 6-4.
He will have to quickly recover from this week in Croatia and get straight into things here and he will fancy his chances against a player 15 years his senior. He will however have to overcome the crowd that will be firmly behind Monfils, but Musetti has the personality to do that. He will thrive on the atmosphere at Roland Garros once again and should be young enough and fresh enough to handle the quick turnaround.
Monfils on the other hand has been very careful with his scheduling and has not played since Wimbledon. He has also stepped in to play in the doubles following the withdrawal of Fabien Reboul so the 37-year-old will be eager to put on a show for the Parisian crowd. This is not an ideal matchup for him however. He has picked up some wins this year but usually against older veterans that he has an edge over physically. That is not the case against the younger up and coming talents like Musetti and that is why he will likely fall short here.
