Uzbek football is on the rise at all levels and they will hope to spring a surprise or two in Paris this summer. They began with a right 2-1 defeat to Spain the other day and now face an Egyptian side that shared an underwhelming goalless draw against the Dominican Republic.

UZBEKISTAN PREVIEW: THE RISE OF THE UZBEKS

As mentioned, Uzbek football has risen very highly and there is a real and genuine chance that they can qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Despite defeat, they put in an excellent show of themselves against Spain the other day.

Marc Pubill opened the scoring for Spain after 23 minutes before Uzbekistan’s key player Eldor Shomurodov equalised from the penalty spot before half-time but Sergio Gomez re-established Spain’s lead in the second-half.

EGYPT PREVIEW: UNDERWHELMING EGYPTIANS

Under the management of Rogerio Micale, who won the 2016 Summer Olympic gold medallist as manager of Brazil eight years ago, Egypt have a fairly inexperienced and underwhelming squad that lacks some of the real talent they could have.

Captained by former Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny, Egypt shared a goalless draw with a fairly poor Dominican Republic side in their opening game in which the North Americans were actually the better side of the two.

UZBEKISTAN VS EGYPT PREDICTION

The Egyptian style of football at senior level has been extremely dour and defensive for quite some time now and with the experience and expertise of Rogerio Micale, that is unlikely to change much, as was shown in their opener against the Dominican Republic. Uzbekistan, on the other hand, play with some real enterprise and have quality throughout and the unity they have with so many of the team having played a lot of football together helps with their cohesion going forward. The Uzbeks would provide some good value for a bet here.
