USA PREVIEW: EMMA HAYES’ IMPRESSIVE START

Former Chelsea boss Emma Hayes is already implementing impressive ideas and managing to get some good cohesion from the United States. Team USA steamrolled through their group and have probably emerged from the first stage as the tournament favourites.

They began their campaign with a 3-0 hammering of Zambia with all three goals coming in the opening 25 minutes before then managing a 4-1 annihilation of a very strong German side. In their final game, they edged past the Australians by two goals to one.

JAPAN PREVIEW: CAUSING PROBLEMS

Japan began their 2024 Summer Olympic campaign by taking a surprise lead against world champions and world number Spain before then succumbing to a 2-1 defeat but their power to surprise was immediately apparent.

In their second game, they scored two goals in second-half stoppage-time to come from behind and defeat Brazil by two goals to one before then managing a comfortable and impressive 3-1 defeat of Nigeria to ensure qualification for the quarter-finals.

USA VS JAPAN PREDICTION

Emma Hayes’ United States have been very impressive so far with some suggesting it is the best and clearest that the USA have played in quite a few years. They will be challenged by a Japanese side that have shown their quality and ability to mix it with the best as they did with Spain in their opening game but, even then, this USWNT look on course for a gold medal final, to be frank, and should come out on top.

USA VS JAPAN TIP: USA TO WIN
