USA PREVIEW: FRUSTRATED WITH A 3-0 WIN
The United States have begun Emma Hayes’ reign really well but there will be a bit of frustration that they did not pile on a massive scoreline against the minnows of Zambia in their opening game, leaving the goal difference door open for Germany and Australia.
The USWNT were 3-0 up inside 25 minutes against the Zambians with Trinity Rodman’s strike being followed by a brace by Mallory Pugh. However, with Zambia down to ten with an hour to go, the US couldn’t add to their tally.
GERMANY PREVIEW: JOYOUS WITH A 3-0 WIN
Germany endured a very difficult FIFA Women’s World Cup last summer and are attempting to rebuild their reputation and status as one of the best teams in women’s international football. Well they did that very well the other day.
At the Stade Velodrome, Germany defeated the Australians by three goals to nil. Marina Hegering opened the scoring after 24 minutes before two counter-attacking strikes from Lea Schuller and Jule Brand to complete a 3-0 rout.
USA VS GERMANY PREDICTION
It wouldn’t be a massive surprise, albeit still something of a surprise, if these two were to meet each other in the Olympic final in a couple of weeks. The United States, though, do appear to be a much stronger side all round, despite the impressive nature of Germany’s opening game victory. What is something that is easier to call, as the result is not, would be that this game should be quite entertaining for the neutral and both teams scoring would seem a good bet.
