UKRAINE PREVIEW: UNDER PRESSURE UKRAINE
Under the management of former Ukrainian senior international Ruslan Rotan and captained by Maksym Talovierov, who was a part of Ukraine’s UEFA EURO 2024 squad, the Ukrainians continued their underwhelming football summer with a shock loss to Iraq.
Ukraine took the lead early in the second-half against the Iraqis with a strike from Valentyn Rubchynskyi before Iraq’s star man Aymen Hussein equalised from the spot and then Ali Jasim notched a 75th minute winner for the Asians.
MOROCCO PREVIEW: THE CONTROVERSY OF SAINT-ETIENNE
At the Geoffrey-Guichard in Saint-Etienne the other day, Morocco pulled off a shock 2-1 defeat of one of the pre-tournament favourites Argentina. The Moroccans led 2-0 before Argentina rallied and believed they had scored an equaliser in the 16th minute of added time.
Unrest from Moroccan fans followed and supporters entered the pitch so the game was suspended and believed to have been ended. However, nearly three hours later, the two sets of players returned to the field in front of empty stands to complete three minutes of action which began with Argentina’s supposed equaliser being chalked off for offside by the VAR.
UKRAINE VS MOROCCO PREDICTION
Ukraine’s style of football at all levels in recent years has been aggressive and attacking but quite lax at the back and actually quite often ineffective or wasteful in attack. That was encapsulated well in their defeat to Iraq the other day. Morocco have proven themselves to be an extremely difficult team to play against with some real thrust and ability in the final third. It could be quite an even contest but a double chance bet in favour of the Moroccans looks the way to go for this one.
