SPAIN PREVIEW: CRUISING THROUGH

Santi Denia has two members of the aforementioned UEFA EURO 2024-winning squad within his unit and both of them, Fermin Lopez and Alex Baena, got on the scoresheet as the Spanish eventually eased past the Dominican Republic by three goals to one.

Girona full-back Miguel Gutierrez got the third and clinching goal in that game to ensure Spain are into the last eight after they had begun their campaign with a 2-1 win over Uzbekistan thanks to strikes from Marc Pubill and Sergio Gomez.

EGYPT PREVIEW: NARROW MARGINS

Egypt, under the conservative management of Brazil’s 2016 Olympic gold winning coach Rogerio Micale, began their campaign with a typically conservative and frankly dull goalless draw with the Dominican Republic.

That was followed by a similar performance and general match, too, against Uzbekistan but Ahmed Koka’s 11th minute goal was enough to be the difference between the two sides and set up potential knockout football for the Egyptians.

SPAIN VS EGYPT PREDICTION

Spain will make a lot of changes. For example, the aforementioned Fermin Lopez and Alex Baena are at their second tournament of the summer so are unlikely to be forced to play this one. If Egypt do win, though, then Spain will be demoted down to the runners’ up spot. A point for Egypt will guarantee them a spot in the knockout stages and that is the type of result and game plan preferred by their players and Rogerio Micale himself. With Spain content on avoiding injury or suspension, this one could end up being quite tedious.

SPAIN VS EGYPT TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
