NEW ZEALAND PREVIEW: KIWIS ON THE RISE

Under the management of Englishman Darren Bazeley, New Zealand are improving quite significantly at the moment and they recently once again won the OFC Nations Cup, lifting themselves to 94th in the world and a good performance at the Olympics would be another marker.

Up against an experienced Guinean midfield, New Zealand came out on top with a 2-1 victory. Matthew Garbett opened the scoring in the first-half before a 72nd minute equaliser from Amadou Diawara. However, it was Plymouth Argyle striker Ben Waine that snatched all three points for the All Whites.

USA PREVIEW: UNDERPERFORMING AMERICANS

Marko Mitrovic may well be coming under pressure in charge of the United States’ U23 and Olympic side if Team USA’s Olympic campaign is undermined by the USMNT being eliminated in the group stages of the men’s football tournament.

They were hammered by the French the other day by three goals to nil in Marseille. They had held the hosts for the first hour but then Alexandre Lacazette broke the deadlock before goals from Michael Olise and Loic Bade.

NEW ZEALAND VS USA PREDICTION

New Zealand could cause shockwaves through the men’s Olympic football tournament if they win this one and cruise through to the quarter-finals with the United States expected to depart. New Zealand have proven themselves to be very stubborn and difficult to play against on the global stage, as they have shown at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and the previous Olympics. USA should bounce back and will be expected to score but a low-scoring encounter remains likely.

NEW ZEALAND VS USA TIP: USA TO WIN & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
