MOROCCO PREVIEW: THRASHING OF USA MOROCCO’S BIGGEST STATEMENT YET

No team has scored more goals than Morocco’s ten across this tournament so far. But it’s the defensive stability of the Atlas Lions which is just as important and they come into the men’s semi-finals on the back of consecutive clean sheets against Iraq and the United States respectively.

It was an outstanding all-round performance that saw Morocco triumph over the States, particularly in the second half. Leading 1-0 at half-time thanks to a Soufiane Rahimi penalty, Morocco went on to add three more goals in the second half with USA forced to sacrifice defensive stability in a bid to get back in the game.

SPAIN PREVIEW: IMPRESSIVE BOUNCE-BACK FROM DEFEAT AGAINST EGYPT

After losing their final Group C fixture vs Egypt, Spain progressed through as runners-up rather than group winners, leading to a quarter-final tie against Japan. The last eight encounter was all about Spain’s potency in front of goal compared to their opponents, who came up short offensively. After Fermin Lopez gave Spain the lead early on, the outcome was always likely to go their way.

Lopez has been excellent across the tournament so far and will probably have a key role to play again for his side in this semi-final. Sergio Gomez has also stood out and Girona forward Abel Ruiz will be full of confidence after his goal in the quarter-final.

MOROCCO VS SPAIN PREDICTION

Two teams in good form from an attacking point of view lock horns and whilst both kept clean sheets in the last eight, the six matches involving at least one of Morocco or Spain saw both teams find the net. When taking into account the offensive weapons that both Morocco and Spain possess, both teams to score has to be favoured again here, regardless of which side eventually progresses through to the final.
