Even with the presence of Argentina in the competition, this meeting between two heavyweights of European football was always actually expected to be Paris 2024’s gold medal match as the hosts, France, take on this summer’s golden side in the men’s game, Spain.

FRANCE PREVIEW: THE MAGIC OF MATETA AND TITI

Thierry Henry’s dream when put in charge of the France U21 side was to win himself and his country an Olympic gold medal and he has a real chance of doing so. They have put in some underwhelming performances at times but have dragged themselves to the final.

They began with three wins out of three in the group stages, scoring seven without conceding and yet still somehow seemed underwhelming and unconvincing. They then edged past Argentina by a goal to nil before using up extra-time to see off Egypt.

SPAIN PREVIEW: PROCESS DRIVEN SPANIARDS

Under the management of Santi Denia, the Spanish, with members of the squad that just won UEFA EURO 2024 in their group, ended up finishing behind the aforementioned Egyptians in their group but that helped them avoid the French in the semi-finals.

Whether by design or accident, Spain won their quarter-final by three goals to nil against Japan before a hard-fought, come from behind victory against Morocco by two goals to one at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille in the semi-finals.

FRANCE VS SPAIN PREDICTION

France came into the tournament as the pre-tournament favourites as hosts and, despite not having the best possible squad that Thierry Henry could have had, they still possess some magnificent players that have put in good performances throughout in a very well controlled manner. Spain, on the other hand, are emulating the senior team success of La Roja by going for back-to-back men’s football tournaments. Whilst both sides show a lot of control with and without the ball, it would be unlikely for France to keep five clean sheets out of six and Spain also have susceptibility against a strong French attack so a final in which both teams score looks a good bet.
