FRANCE PREVIEW: FRENCH SET TO CRUISE THROUGH
Thierry Henry’s France side have been decimated by clubs refusing players to go to the tournament after initially being called up. However, the depth in French football remains remarkable and they are still favourites for the gold medal in Paris this summer.
They were held for an hour against the United States the other day but then captain Alexandre Lacazette opened the scoring after 61 minutes before Michael Olise then notched and Loic Bade made it 3-0 later on.
GUINEA PREVIEW: DISAPPOINTING GUINEA
With Guinea’s senior coach Kaba Diawara at the helm and former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita as captain, there is a sense of continuity between Guinea’s side that reached the quarter-finals of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year and this time in Paris.
The Guineans began their tournament, though, with a fairly embarrassing surprise 2-1 defeat to New Zealand the other day in which Amadou Diawara had cancelled out Matthew Garbett’s opener before Ben Waine then scored a late winner for the Kiwis.
FRANCE VS GUINEA PREDICTION
Thierry Henry will want a faster start from his France side, albeit the United States deserve credit for frustrating the hosts in their opening game for so long. No matter how long it takes, though, this French side are expected to just wipe the floor with pretty much any opposition in the Olympics. The Guineans are already staring at elimination after that 2-1 loss to New Zealand and a comfortable French victory is to be expected for this one.
