FRANCE PREVIEW: FOUR CONSECUTIVE WINS SEES LES BLEUS CONTINUE TO MOTOR

Thierry Henry’s side have been among the very top performers across the men’s Olympic football tournament so far, winning four games from four and scoring eight goals without conceding. They comfortably topped Group A and beating a nation of Argentina’s pedigree proves why they are an excellent bet to eventually finish with a gold medal.

The depth of France is a big factor in their success with Henry able to call upon excellent players such as Michael Olise and Jean-Philippe Mateta, the latter scoring Les Bleus’ winning goal against Argentina in just the fifth minute.

EGYPT PREVIEW: LATE EQUALISER LEADS TO EVENTUAL SHOOTOUT SUCCESS IN QUARTER-FINAL

The Pharaohs looked to be heading out of the competition at the quarter-final stage after going a goal behind against Paraguay with less than 20 minutes of normal time to play. However, writing off Egypt is a foolish move and they were rewarded for their persistence in the 88th minute, Ibrahim Adel scoring an equalising goal.

Extra time came and went, leading to a penalty shootout, which is where Egypt showed their class, converting all five of their penalties to triumph 5-4 after Marcelo Perez missed for Paraguay. Having already beaten Spain back in the group stage, they’ve shown they have the ability to take a major European scalp.

FRANCE VS EGYPT PREDICTION

Now just one win away from a gold medal match at the Parc des Princes, France cannot afford to take their foot off the gas at this point. But as folk within football so often say, attack wins games but defence wins championships and France’s backline has been superb all tournament long, still yet to concede a goal. Such defensive resolve should lay the foundations for a positive result in the semi-finals and with home advantage in their favour, back France to edge past Egypt.

FRANCE VS EGYPT TIP: FRANCE TO WIN
