FRANCE PREVIEW: FUMBLING BUT FLYING FRENCH
Under the management of Thierry Henry, France have flown through the groups with three wins out of three but they did find it quite tough at times. It took them an hour to break down the United States, for example, before winning their opener by three goals to nil.
In their second game in the groups, they edged past Guinea by a goal to nil but not until the 75th minute and their rotated side also led by just a goal to nil until the 71st minute against New Zealand before eventually winning by three goals to nil.
ARGENTINA PREVIEW: THE THRILLS OF ARGENTINIAN FOOTBALL
Javier Mascherano’s Argentina began their Olympic campaign with a controversial 2-1 defeat to Morocco in which a 106th minute equalising goal was ruled out nearly two and a half hours later by VAR following the match being suspended.
The Argentinians did follow that up, though, with two relatively comfortable victories as they defeated Iraq by three goals to one before then cruising to a 2-0 win over Ukraine with goals from Thiago Almada and Claudio Echeverri.
FRANCE VS ARGENTINA PREDICTION
If things went according to plan then the expectation would be that these two sides would have made up two of the three spots on the podium. Instead, though, one of them will be guaranteed of missing out on a semi-final altogether. France have looked more composed but against much weaker opposition, whilst Argentina appear to be following the script of entertainment and drama that has seen them win the last two CONMEBOL Copa America trophies as well as the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Drama is to be had but given their home advantage, France do look the likelier to progress.
