DOMINICAN REPUBLIC PREVIEW: SHOWING FIGHT

Coached by former Athletic Club man Ibai Gomez, the Dominican Republic would, on paper, have one of the weakest squads in the competition, albeit with a few notable names such as Junior Firpo within their ranks.

However, a good performance with no potency saw them share a goalless draw with Egypt in their opening match before then being level at 1-1 with one of the pre-tournament favourites Spain before Spain eventually ran out as 3-1 winners.

UZBEKISTAN PREVIEW: SHOCK EXIT OF THE UZBEKS

Coming into the tournament, Uzbekistan would have had genuine hopes and maybe even expectation of reaching the quarter-finals and that would have only risen when they narrowly lost 2-1 to Spain at the Parc des Princes in Paris last week.

However, up against a conservative and tough to score against Egyptian side they came unstuck at the weekend. In what was a frustrating game for the neutral, Egypt took an 11th minute lead via Ahmed Koka and held on for all three points.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC VS UZBEKISTAN PREDICTION

The cut-throat jeopardy of a four-team group in which only the top two go through means that the Uzbeks have already been eliminated from this tournament, despite their overall improvement as a nation in recent years at all levels. However, even with perhaps that lack of motivation, it would still be a very big ask for the Dominican Republic to push past. With Ibai Gomez’ men likely to have to risk more in the later stages of this game, backing Uzbekistan would seem like a decent value bet.
