Spain pulled off a minor upset in the men’s tournament as they defeated hosts France by five goals to three after extra-time and Brazil will be hoping to produce their own shock to win a first women’s football Olympic gold as they take on the United States.

BRAZIL PREVIEW: FROM UNDERPERFORMERS TO HEROES
At the 2004 and 2008 Olympics, Brazil managed to reach the final of the women’s football tournament but lost on both occasions. This is their third final and one thing remains: Marta is in the squad and she may well start the final after serving a two-match suspension, too.
In the two games she has missed, the Brazilians have been extremely impressive with a 1-0 defeat over hosts France in the quarter-final and then pulling off a shock 4-2 win over world champions and world number one Spain in the semis.
USA PREVIEW: THE EVER IMPRESSIVE EMMA HAYES & USA
Under the management of former Chelsea boss Emma Hayes, the United States have put together an impressive Olympic campaign as they seek to recover from what was a really poor and underwhelming 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign.
The USWNT won all three of their group stage games in quite impressive style before back-to-back extra-time 1-0 victories over Japan and Germany in the knockout stages but they appear very well composed as they head into the final.
BRAZIL VS USA PREDICTION
In the group stages, if these two sides had met then many would have anticipated and expected the United States to wipe the floor with Brazil. In the knockouts, the Brazilians have been very impressive and especially in that 4-2 win over Spain. The USA, though, have remained controlled and are unlikely to be a team that concede four goals in a game. Whilst Brazil have improved, the Americans should still be backed for the gold medal here.
