PREDICTION

Many eyes will be on the 1500m on Tuesday when bitter rivals Josh Kerr and Jakob Ingebrigtsen go head-to-head for Olympic Gold. The two have traded fighting words since Kerr won this event at last year’s World Championship, and the Brit is full of belief that he can pip the Norwegian to the title.

However, Ingebrigtsen, the reigning Olympic champion, prevailed in the semi-final meeting between the two on Sunday, and given his experience of glory in Tokyo three years ago, as well as the fact he has already run sub 3:27 this year, we’re tipping the Norwegian to repeat his Olympic success in what should be a thrilling race.

TIP: JAKOB INGEBRIGTSEN (NOR) TO WIN

PREDICTION

With huge names such as Jamaican duo Shericka Jackson and Elaine-Thompson Herah missing from the 200m in Paris, American hope Gabby Thomas is seen as the leading candidate to claim gold. The 27-year-old has run the fastest time of 2024 (21.78), but will face stiff competition from the likes of 100m champion Julien Alfred and former world champion Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain.

Given her world-leading time, Thomas gets the nod here, although Aldred will be full of confidence from her historic 100m gold and should be amongst the medals.

TIP: GABBY THOMAS (USA) TO WIN

PREDICTION

Kellie Harrington is on the brink of retaining her status as Olympic champion in the Lightweight category after coming through a highly competitive semi-final with Beatriz Ferreira, in what was a repeat of the final between the pair in Tokyo three years ago.

Harrington will take on Wenlu Yang in Tuesday’s final at Roland Garros, the Chinese fighter completely dominating Chinese Taipei’s Wu Shih-yi in her own semi-final.

Given her considerable experience at this level, it is hard to look past 34-year-old Harrington sending the Irish fans into raptures with another Olympic gold.

TIP: KELLIE HARRINGTON (IRL) TO WIN
