Pablo Carreno Busta will be confident his surge to the quarter-finals at the Challenger in Girona last week will have given him the clay-court taster needed to down 23-year-old wildcard Younes Lalami Laaroussi.

The Spaniard may have lost 6-2 6-4 to eventual champion Marin Cilic but his experience and solid all-round game is likely to be far too consistent for the inexperienced Moroccan, who is ranked at 1231 in the world.

Former top-ten star, Carreno Busta’s best years may be behind him now, but the 33-year-old has enjoyed some big moments this year, winning back-to-back hardcourt titles in two Challenger events in Tenerife in February.

That 12-match winning streak may have been at a lower level, but it will have lifted his confidence alongside his first titles since triumphing at the Canadian Masters three years ago.

Laaroussi’s biggest hope will be the element of surprise given his lack of activity in high-level tournaments, but we don’t see a major shock in this one.
