Nuno Borges vs Stefanos Tsitsipas prediction

Stefanos Tsitsipas overcame a scare as his title defence kicked off with a 4-6 6-4 6-2 win over Jordan Thompson. 

The Aussie made some highly successful ventures to the net to rush the three-time champion, but ultimately the Greek’s serve-plus-one off the forehand did the necessary damage with the sixth seed winning 80% of his first serve points. 

Tsitsipas will be confident he has ironed out the kinks in his game heading into a round of 16 showdown with Nuno Borges.

The Portuguese battled hard to follow up his win over an unwell Holger Rune to edge Pedro Martinez 7-5 6-7 6-4.

Borges fired ten aces and 49 winners against the Spaniard, but he will need to cut down on the 66 unforced errors and be more ruthless converting break points having secured just five from 17 opportunities. 

Tsitsipas is unlikely to offer many openings on his serve and we can’t see it being much different from their previous meeting, which came on clay in Rome two years ago with the Portuguese hopeful going down 6-3 6-3.
