Nuno Borges vs Pedro Martinez prediction

Nuno Borges advanced through to the second round after Holger Rune had to retire during his match with Borges already 6-2 3-0 up. The Portuguese number one is now up against Pedro Martinez, with a place in the third round at stake.

Martinez made it through to the next stage with a three-set win over Lorenzo Sonego. The Spaniard won 6-4 1-6 6-2, though had the chances to make it a more comfortable encounter, only converting three of a possible 11 break point opportunities.

Martinez seems to be over the hamstring issue which saw him withdraw midway through his semi-final match at the Bucharest Open. There are just eight places separating these two in the rankings, with Borges at 43 and Martinez at 51 in the world.

The Portuguese does lead the head-to-head 1-0, after beating Martinez in a close three-set match in the first round of Rome last year. Borges played fine tennis despite Rune’s issues in the first round and we’re backing him to find a way through.
