Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has his sights on another deep run at a European clay event.

The world number 29’s fine form in 2025 has seen him reach two finals as well as putting together a semi-final run in Monte Carlo and a quarter-final push in Barcelona.

The Spaniard will now meet Nuno Borges for the second time after the Portuguese world number 41 hit back to beat Pablo Carreno Busta 6-7 7-6 6-3 and reach the second round at the event for the first time. 

Borges triumphed in his maiden encounter with Foki at the Australian Open last year, but ADF is a different proposition on clay and will enjoy the home support. 

The faster conditions may suit Borges ever so slightly, but we are tipping Foki to clock up the win and stay on track to crack the world’s top 20 for the first time.
