Neither of these two players have had a great time on court lately in 2025, with each finding wins hard to come by. Karen Khachanov has been beaten in every singles match he’s played since the Australian Open, a losing streak spanning four consecutive tournaments. But at least he’s been on the winning side at least once this year, which couldn’t be said for Nick Kyrgios until the first round here in Miami.

The Australian had competed in just three tournaments in 2025 prior to Miami, those being Brisbane, the Australian Open and Indian Wells, all of which saw Kyrgios knocked out immediately. Injury has clearly hampered him and makes it very difficult for Kyrgios to sustain a high level of performance. You have to go back to 2020 for the last time he got the better of Khachanov, doing so in an Australian Open five-set thriller which saw four sets decided via tie-break.

As poor as Khachanov has been recently, the 28-year-old is a stronger player than Kyrgios in 2025 and also a very handy operator on this surface. With that in mind, back the Russian to come out on top.
