THE TEAM NEWS
PITTSBURGH STEELERS
- Pittsburgh will enter a new era without some of their star players over recent years as they look to improve on their 9-6-1 season last time out as head coach Mike Tomlin looks to guide his new-look side back into the play-offs.
- The Steelers parted ways with RB Le'Veon Bell and WR Antonio Brown with the stud pair leaving in free agency and in a trade to Oakland but with the drama that has followed their exits, it may be a good thing for Pittsburgh.
- James Conner will take over the RB role after a great year standing in for Bell whilst JuJu Smith-Schuster is the undoubted number one WR in Pittsburgh now and the speed merchant has the world at his feet.
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
- New England secured their third Super Bowl crown in the last six years as they defeated Los Angeles Rams 13-3 in Atlanta and despite rumours calling it a day, the great Tom Brady will line-up under center once again for the Patriots this season.
- The big off-season news for the Patriots came in the form of legendary TE Rob Gronkowski opting to retire from the game and that will give Brady one less offensive weapon whilst he will also need to find a new ‘go-to’ man.
- The Patriots have suffered a blow at WR with the loss of first-round pick N’Keal Henry for at least the first eight weeks of the season but they pulled off a stunning coup on Saturday by signing free agent star Antonio Brown after he was released by the Oakland Raiders without playing a single game for the team following a turbulent summer.
THE PREDICTION
New England will once again head into the NFL season as the favourites for the Super Bowl as they look to defend their title. They host a new-look Pittsburgh side that lost its two star players in the off-season and whilst they may come good, it will take a while for them to gel. That should allow the Pats to get the win in this opening game although they will have to play well as the Steelers are capable of causing an upset.
