THE TEAM NEWS
GREEN BAY PACKERS
- Green Bay had to fend off a second-half fightback from Seattle as some classy plays from quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his receivers helped guide the Packers into the NFC Championship to face San Francisco.
- Rodgers threw for 243 yards as he completed 16 of his 27 throws which resulted in two touchdowns and he was ably assisted on the ground by Aaron Jones with the running back scoring two touchdowns of his own.
- The Packers suffered several injuries during the game against the Seahawks and looked banged up towards the end of the contest but all 52 players on the Green Bay roster practiced in some capacity on Thursday and they should have a healthy roster come Sunday.
SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
- San Francisco highlighted their credentials as the NFC’s #1 seed when they overcame Minnesota to run out comfortable winners in their Divisional contest and look every inch a team that could claim the Super Bowl.
- The 49ers looked good on both sides of the ball but it was their defense that stood against the Vikings and what they are likely to build any success on although an Aaron Rodgers-offense will ask plenty of questions.
- Running back Raheem Mostert suffered a calf injury during last week’s contest and despite leaving that game, he logged a full practice on both Wednesday and Thursday which means he will play while defensive lineman Dee Ford and tight end George Kittle returned in a limited fashion on Thursday as they trend towards suiting up.
THE PREDICTION
San Francisco were dominant defensively in a convincing win over Minnesota to secure their place in the NFC Championship game. They will host a Green Bay outfit that they were far too good for when they clashed earlier in the season and will be confident of a repeat showing. The Packers did just enough to see off Seattle last week but face a much tougher contest here and although they should make it a closer game than the last time they faced the 49ers, the home team’s defense should do enough to send them to the Super Bowl.
