THE TEAM NEWS
NEW YORK GIANTS
- New York suffered a poor season as they fell to 5-11 with veteran QB Eli Manning coming under huge scrutiny in the process and his place in the side will come under serious threat this season.
- The Giants allowed star WR Odell Beckham Jr. to be traded to the Browns whilst they picked up QB Daniel Jones sixth overall in the draft in a move that raised plenty of eyebrows across the league.
- Manning will have the job for now but if he struggles as he did last season, Jones will push him for his starting spot whilst a lot of the Giants’ success this year will depend on RB Saquon Barkley who enjoyed a sensational rookie season.
DALLAS COWBOYS
- Dallas ended the season in first place in the NFC East but were defeated by the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round with the Cowboys needing to show some big improvements to go deeper in the post-season this year.
- The Cowboys didn't have any first round picks in the draft but added DT Trysten Hill to bolster their defensive options in the second round but they have injury concerns over one of their linebackers and two safeties heading into their season opener.
- Star RB Ezekiel Elliott had looked set to miss some game time after holding out during the off-season but a deal was reached this week to make him the highest-paid RB in the NFL with six-year deal worth $90m.
THE PREDICTION
The Giants endured a poor year in 2018 and it might get worse in 2019 after allowing Odell Beckham Jr. to leave whilst they made a hugely underwhelming pick with their first-round draft choice, selecting QB Daniel Jones. Dallas should have far too much for them in this opening game, especially on the back of the news that Ezekiel Elliott will suit-up after ending his holdout.
