THE TEAM NEWS
HOUSTON TEXANS
- Houston topped the AFC South with an 11-5 record but lost their Wildcard contest against Indianapolis in a disappointing end to their year.
- The Texans will have a lot to prove this year after their draft selections were criticised, especially for taking OT Tytus Howard too early and that could put the rookies under plenty of pressure.
- DE Jadeveon Clowney was also allowed to depart during the off-season as the Texans parted ways with the 2014 first overall draft pick as he was traded to the Seahawks which will leave a big hole in their defense.
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
- New Orleans were on the end of a controversial call in the Conference Championship which saw them lose to Los Angeles Rams and they will not want to dwell on that any longer as they look to go on another deep run in the post-season.
- The Saints only had one pick in the first 100 in the draft and they used it on C Erik McCoy whilst they signed WR Deonte Harris in FA in what were considered two of their biggest moves during the off-season.
- The other significant pick-up came in the shape of TE Jared Cook who was signed in FA following his release by the Raiders and QB Drew Brees could have fun picking him out in what could prove to be a very fruitful partnership.
THE PREDICTION
New Orleans played some superb football last season and they will look to produce similar this year. RB Mark Ingram left as a free agent which should see Alvin Kamara given a greater workload and the Texans will be the first side to be on the receiving end of that with the Saints able to put last year’s drama behind them with a victory in their opening game of the season.
