Newcastle United will be keen to bounce back from a rare poor performance this weekend with the visit of an all but relegated Ipswich Town side to St James’ Park for this one.

Newcastle Preview: Getting back up and running

Despite Eddie Howe not being in the dugout for their last three matches due to pneumonia, assistant coach Jason Tindall has still managed to maintain Newcastle United’s impressive run of form as they challenge for UEFA Champions League qualification in the Premier League.

The Magpies do, though, come into this one on the back of a 4-1 loss to Aston Villa at Villa Park last weekend in a game in which they went 1-0 down inside a minute before fighting back to all-square at half-time but then being blown away in the second-half by the Villains.

Ipswich Preview: Frustrated but positives

Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town have often shown themselves to be competitive this season but back-to-back automatic promotions from League One to the Premier League was always likely to lead to a fairly meek immediate relegation back down to the Championship.

The Tractor Boys have, though, also often showed a flagrant naivety throughout this campaign and that continued last weekend as they were hammered by four goals to nil by Arsenal at Portman Road in a result that arguably flattered the Suffolk-based outfit.

Newcastle vs Ipswich Prediction

Newcastle United had been relentless for a couple of months and that impressive form also included defeating Liverpool by two goals to one in the EFL Cup final at Wembley Stadium last month to end their long trophy drought. Last weekend wasn’t ideal but it also wasn’t a horrendous performance at Villa. They face an Ipswich Town side that will hope to exploit that potentially lowered Newcastle confidence but Newcastle, at St James’ Park, should win quite comfortably.
