Newcastle Preview: A famous win
A couple of weeks ago, Newcastle United finally ended their long trophy drought by winning the EFL Cup, a competition they lost the final of in 2023, courtesy of a famous 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Wembley Stadium thanks to goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak.
The Magpies are looking to punch their way back into the UEFA Champions League this season, having guaranteed UEFA Europa Conference League qualification with that win. They will need to refocus quickly, though, after their trophy parade through Newcastle at the weekend.
Brentford Preview: Variety of Brentford
Under the management of Thomas Frank, Brentford have consistently impressed, despite some inconsistencies in terms of their actual performance level and results this season, with their tactical variety and that smart approach may well be suited to catching out a distracted team.
The Bees went into the March international break on the back of a strong 2-1 win over AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium a couple of weeks ago and that means they have suffered just one defeat in their last five matches in the Premier League.
Newcastle Team News: Gordon still suspended
England international Anthony Gordon remains suspended for this weekend but should be back available after a slight knock for the weekend. They also remain without the likes of club captain Jamaal Lascelles, Netherlands international defender Sven Botman and Gordon's international teammate Lewis Hall due to injury.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Pope; Trippier, Schar, Burn, Livramento; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Murphy, Isak, Barnes
Unavailable: Botman (Injured), Lascelles (Injured), Hall (Injured), Gordon (Suspended)

Brentford Team News: Jensen out
Denmark international midfielder Mathias Jensen has joined the Brentford injury list which still consists of the likes of Josh Dasilva, Fabio Carvalho and Igor Thiago. They also will be without Aaron Hickey, Rico Henry and Gustavo Nunes due to fitness issues but Michael Kayode has returned for the Bees.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Flekken; Ajer, Collins, Pinnock, Lewis-Potter; Norgaard, Janelt; Mbeumo, Damsgaard, Schade; Wissa

Newcastle vs Brentford Prediction
Newcastle United will be seeking to avoid the almightiest of ‘after the Lord mayor’s show’ performances up in the north east this weekend. Whilst the distraction of the celebrations may cause a few issues for Eddie Howe getting the focus of his side, it could also act as a wave to carry through his side. Brentford, though, will fancy their chances of getting after Newcastle and trying to pounce on any sort of relaxed attitudes with both teams scoring looking a good bet for this one in Tyneside.
