It is the featherweights that kick off the main card that UFC Fight Night 255 in London as Nathan Wood meets Morgan Charriere in what should be a highly competitive fight.
Wood has won four of his last five fights in the UFC and he has fought and beaten some decent calibre opponents such as Andre Fili and Charles Jourdain. He last fought UFC 304 in Manchester where he picked up a unanimous decision victory over Daniel Pineda.
He returns to action to face France’s Morgan Charriere who is coming off a win of his own after he knocked out Gabriel Miranda at UFC Fight Night 243 last September. That was his second victory under the UFC banner and he will be hoping to kick on with the victory here.
It is Charriere who carries the greater knockout power and that will be his primary route to victory in this matchup. Wood is the more technical fighter and desirable and more well-rounded and it will be very interesting to see how he approaches this fight. He cannot afford to stand and strike for three rounds against the Frenchman, but if he keeps his approach varied, he has the skill set to go the distance and pick up a decision victory. That is our marginal preference although with the power that Charriere possesses, a knockout win for the Frenchman could easily happen.
