Napoli Preview: Grinding it out

Antonio Conte has overseen a Napoli side that have been grinding things out for a while but their low performance level has begun to have an important impact now as they drift away from defending champions Internazionale at the top-of-the-table in Serie A.

The Neapolitans now begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting three points behind Inter at the top. They shared a 1-1 draw with an impressive Bologna side at the Renato Dall’Ara in Emilio-Romagna in their most recent outing last weekend.

Empoli Preview: Struggling Empoli

Empoli begin the 32nd match day of the 2024/25 Serie A campaign sitting tucked inside the bottom three and the relegation places. The Florence-based club have completely collapsed in the last few months after a bright-ish start to the campaign.

The visitors have managed just four victories in their 31 matches with just 24 goals scored in those games. They did manage to hold a stubborn Cagliari side to a goalless draw at the Stadio Carlo Castellani in Florence last weekend.

Napoli Team News: Couple of suspensions

Napoli are dealing with a couple of key suspension issues for this weekend such as Italy international defender Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Cameroon international defensive midfielder Frank-Andre Zambo Anguissa, as they also deal with several key doubts.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Meret; Rafa Marin, Rrahmani, Juan, Mathias Olivera; Gilmour, Lobotka, Billing; Politano, Lukaku, David Neres

Unavailable: Di Lorenzo (Suspended), Anguissa (Suspended)

Questionable: Meret (Illness), Buongiorno (Injured), Spinazzola (Injured), McTominay (Injured)

Empoli Team News: Several absentees

Empoli are dealing with several absentees for this weekend’s trip to Naples with the likes of Marco Silvestri, Ardian Ismajli, Youssef Maleh, Szymon Zurkowski and Christian Kouame are all sidelined for the visitors, whilst Tino Anjorin is a doubt, too.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Devis Vasquez; Goglichidze, Marianucci, Viti; Sambia, Grassi, Henderson, Pezzella; Solbakken, Cacace; Esposito

Unavailable: Silvestri (Inured), Ismajli (Injured), Sazonov (Injured), Haas (Injured), Maleh (Injured), Zurkowski (Injurd), Kouame (Injured), Pellegri (Injured)

Questionable: Anjorin (Injured)

Napoli vs Empoli Prediction

Napoli have struggled for fluency and freedom throughout the campaign, very rarely, if ever, producing convincing performances and results. That has only become even more obvious of late with key absentees and issues – having managed just two victories in their last nine matches in Serie A as Conte continues to be linked with both AC Milan and Juventus. That said, they now face an Empoli side that have been awful in the last few months and the Neapolitans should once again grind out three points for this one.

Napoli vs Empoli Tip: Napoli to win & under 3.5 goals
