NAPOLI PREVIEW: CONTE’S NAPOLI
After a summer spent whinging about the lack of spending, Antonio Conte was eventually allowed over £100 million. Napoli started the season with a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Hellas Verona at the Bentegodi on the opening weekend of the campaign but they have since majorly improved and now sit comfortably at the top-of-the-table.
In their most recent outing, the Neapolitans went to San Siro to face AC Milan during the week and they defeated the Rossoneri in comprehensive and convincing fashion with goals scored by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Romelu Lukaku. They have won eight and drawn one since losing on the opening day of the campaign.
ATALANTA PREVIEW: EXCITING ATALANTA
Gian Piero Gasperini is into yet another new era evolving the style of football in Bergamo with an entertaining and attacking system always a fundamental but with slight tweaks across the pitch and different personnel. They started the season slowly with the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League winners experiencing teething issues but they have been improved in the last month or so.
The Bergamasci come into this one on the back of being frustrated for large parts of their defeat of Monza in midweek but they eventually came out on top by two goals to nil with goals from Davide Zappacosta and Lazar Samardzic. They have now enjoyed four successive victories in Serie A.
NAPOLI TEAM NEWS: NO LOBOTKA
Antonio Conte is known for playing a back three system but the Neapolitans have actually been successful with a 4-3-3 shape in the last couple of months.
The arrivals of Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour from Manchester United and Chelsea respectively have helped Napoli deal with an injury to Stanislav Lobotka.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Buongiorno, Mathias Olivera; Anguissa, Gilmour, McTominay; Politano, Lukaku, Kvaratskhelia
UNAVAILABLE: Lobotka (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
ATALANTA TEAM NEWS: NO SCALVINI OR SCAMACCA
Atalanta have rotated a bit throughout this season and did rest some players from the start against Monza and summer signing Marco Brescianini remains a doubt for this one.
They do still have a couple of key players dealing with long-term absences due to ACL injuries with those players being Giorgio Scalvini and Gianluca Scamacca.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Carnesecchi; Djimsiti, Hien, Kolasinac; Bellanova, De Roon, Ederson, Ruggeri; De Ketelaere, Lookman; Retegui
UNAVAILABLE: Scalvini (Injured), Scamacca (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Brescianini (Injured)
NAPOLI VS ATALANTA PREDICTION
Napoli have now kept ten clean sheets in 12 matches across all competitions so far this season with Antonio Conte seemingly already into title winning mode with a Napoli side that have locked down the defence. They face an Atalanta side that are thrilling to watch and are the top scorers in Serie A but they now have to face the bluntness of a Conte side away from home and siding with the hosts remains the best bet for this one.
